• Spring Scientific Meeting 2022

We are happy to announce that the British Society of Orthopaedic Anaesthetists (BSOA) Spring Meeting will be taking place on the 31st March 2022 in Sheffield. Please book your study leave for this exciting full day BSOA event!

    MEETING INFORMATION
The meeting will be in a hybrid format physically taking place at the OEC Sheffield, which is a brand new venue in the Steel City. Virtual attendance will also be possible for those who are unable to attend in person with a livestream available on the day.

Dr Svetlana Galitzine and Dr Nick Suarez, both from Oxford, will be the ‘local’ organisers, as the programme has evolved from the programme of the 2020 BSOA SSM meeting which should have been delivered in Oxford. A period of compensatory webinars in 2020 and 2021 ran to ensure continuing educational delivery by the BSOA.

There will be call for abstracts announced shortly with trainees’ poster prizes up for grabs!

  • Monitoring Blood and Brain to Improve Patient Outcomes

Without SpHb, clinicians are often limited to invasive blood samples, which provide intermittent and delayed laboratory haemoglobin results. SpHb can be used in conjunction with traditional laboratory methods to obtain real-time visibility to changes, or lack of changes, in haemoglobin between invasive blood samples. Studies have shown that SpHb may help clinicians reduce blood transfusions in both low and high blood loss surgeries.
