Welcome to the official page of the 24th Annual Scientific Meeting. We have changed the face of this meeting in recent years to be inclusive of the various daily elements tackled by any anaesthetist including Peri-operative medicine.

We boast a remarkably cost effective £:CEPD value at this meeting. Additionally we aim that our educational activities put the patient at the centre of them. Unfortunately, in the UK we have a specialty centered approach to anaesthetics when in fact it should probably be a body systems approach. We try to reflect the latter.

Over the last 8 years we have actively sought to tackle the range of patient groups in our meetings leading us to inaugurate workshops and session as titled below:

Workshops:

  • Cell salvage
  • Regional anaesthesia(upper and lower limb)
  • Radiology for the anaesthetist
  • Emergency tracheostomy and fibre optic intubation
  • Pensions and the NHS

Sessions:

  • Improving practice
  • Radiology and regional anaesthesia
  • Perioperative Medicine
  • Registrar prize presentation
  • Critical care and orthopaedics
  • Extremes of care.

Our total for registrar prizes in the presentation amounts to £1300.00. The BSOA has introduced a research fund worth £5,000.00 annually which will increase to £10,000 in 2020. The fund is redeemable by appropriately represented application through the NIAA.

We have recently established a link with the British society of hand surgeons and ReSurge Africa to assist underprivileged patients in the Holy Spirit Hospital in Makeni, Sierra Leone. This is worth £2500 as a one off for equipment and a further £1000/annum for anaesthetic medication subsidisation for a further 3 years. I sincerely hope that you enjoy the conference and the numerous delights in theatre, food and music that Birmingham has to offer.

We look forward to welcoming you to the meeting.
